Lord Hill 50K Race Report

I ran Lord Hill 50K a week ago. I don't have some awe-inspiring race report. I didn't fall flat on my face. It wasn't some suffer-fest, other than a mini bout of cramps. It makes for terrible story telling.

I ran fairly well on the three loop (plus one extra small loop) course, that involves hiking straight up Lord Hill three times. 9th place and a couple minutes over 5 hours. Most of the course is very 'run-able', outside of Lord Hill, and then some muddy sections.

Next up is Badger Mountain 50K in late March. Plan on training my butt off until then. Cheers.

  • Proper training translates into a more enjoyable race experience. Another post in itself, I'm sure.
  • Wear gloves when its windy. Forgot those, could have used them.
  • Volunteer, then you can run, and learn, for free.
  • Run to the outside of the trail when mud seems unavoidable, but realize this may involve more potential tripping hazards.
  • Power of self-talk. The climb really is not that steep or long, just put head down and keep moving.
  • Don't be afraid to slow down, take your time, and be grateful to be out here doing something you love. It helped when I had some cramps around mile 28. Stop, stretch for 15 seconds, resume running.
